Course Outline
Since the introduction of electronics into vehicles, and as the complexity continues to grow, new test methods and equipment are demanded. Oscilloscopes are now an essential part of workshop diagnostics. This has become the only tool to accurately and efficiently diagnose modern systems and components.
Whether a vehicle problem is highlighted by a scan tool, a technician’s knowledge or past experience, further testing is always required to determine where the fault actually lies. This course is designed for all technician levels and starts with a thorough look at oscilloscope variants, vehicle connection and display settings.
We then look at basic electrical principles as well
as waveform interpretation and analysis with particular attention placed on recognising typical defective signals. The advantage of using an oscilloscope over conventional tools even when testing basic circuits is often overlooked.
Emphasis is placed on the practical testing of all
vehicle circuits, such as voltage drop and sensor measurements and not only for traditional scope applications like ignition and rotating sensors.
A large selection of fault traces are also provided as reference.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to connect and setup their oscilloscope, to quickly analyse waveforms and determine indications of failures or interference.
